Cat deteriorating back condition...

by James Atchison

Hello,

My cat, Sulu, in the past couple weeks looks to have developed a spinal issue where its been sticking up, and just recently his legs are giving up on him, making him unable to walk and therefore not eating, drinking, or urinating properly. Doesn't seem he has too much time left as I worry that he wants to starve. It was a sudden change. Any ideas to what it could be?

Thanks!

RESPONSE:

I am currently traveling and unable to research what the back issue might be but it does sound like Sulu has had a fall and has injured his back. It came on quickly so it points to that. He is probably in so much pain that he is giving up. Please get him to a veterinarian as soon as possible. Either they can help him or at least he can be humanely euthanized if there is no solution. If they can help him at least he can get pain medications to help him tolerate the pain I believe he is feeling. Cats quit eating when they are in really bad pain and this might be his situation.

I know how hard it is to watch an animal suffer so please, please, get him to a vet. My best to you both.
