Devil's Claw Powder - My cat won't eat the food with this in

by Julie
(Bath, UK)

My cat has arthiritus by my vet made her violently sick I have been looking for a natural alternative.
I saw very encouraging reviews for the devils claw and so have purchased some.
I've tried mixing it in with her food and blending it with fresh prawns, neither of which she will touch with the powder added.
Does anyone have any tips on what I might be able to disguise this in to give to her.
She currentlt has a tablet twice a week for astham, so if I could avoid putting her through the stress of a further table it would be preferred.

Many thanks
Julie

RESPONSE:

I certainly understand your dilemma. Cats are amazing in their ability to detect any change in their food. You mentioned that you've tried blending it with prawns so that implies that she is a seafood fan. So, maybe try mixing with a bit of fish oil.

I can't think of anything else that will perhaps overcome the smell she is detecting. Hopefully one of readers will have a suggestion.

If you have to go tablets, have you tried using Greenies Pill Pockets? When I had a problem giving pills to one of my cats my vet suggested using them. They are all natural and come in several flavors. You hide the pill in them. He loved the chicken flavored ones. His pills were on the big side so I cut them in half and gave him two of the Pill Pockets. It worked great.

Wishing you luck with resolving this problem.
