HOW TO CARE FOR MY FERAL KITTEN AFTER SPAYING

by Donna Greiner
(Riverside NJ )

Hello fellow cat family, I'm back! My question involves how I would adequately care for my 8 month old kitten Smittee after she is spayed, when she still will not allow me to handle her. She only allows a bit of petting when I place her food bowls down. I know she should not lick the incision, etc., and I'm worried that the incision will become infected if I can't check it's status, etc. I have had her for 4 months now, and very little success with petting or cuddling. How can I help her? She seems to suffer terribly, and has already gone through 2 heats, poor Smittee yowls and cries all night and seems to be going crazy when in heat.

Daddycat is healed from his neutering, but I can't risk him passing on the FIV to the kittens....had them tested, they do not have it. Mommycat and he have one more cold night to get through....this is breaking my heart....poor homeless cats, not so sure I agree with Alley Cat Allies about the good life outdoor cats live. It is cold, hard, and full of risks, mean people and diseases from other animals. I PRAY all people will spay and neuter their animals.

THANK you my fellow cat family....I pray your human surgery went well.

For the love of cats,
Donna Greiner

RESPONSE:

Hi Donna,

I was supposed to return home within one day of surgery but major complications arose, so they kept me 5 days. I'm on such heavy pain meds that concentration is difficult so I'll respond in a couple of days when I can think. Just letting you know that I'm not ignoring you, simply have to recuperate enough to make sense.
