Manx cat appears to have lost his bump of a tail

by Missy
(Northern Michigan)

I thought that Stumpy got into a fight and had a bad bite above his anus, but below his tail. When I went to clean it today I see that there is a hole. Yes, a hole the size of a pencil diameter. I think that the stump of a tail that he did have, has fallen out. His tail used to be more connected to the rest of his spine, but a few years ago it seems to have dropped off and was kind of floating in the tail skin area.
He doesn't have a fever and doesn't seem lethargic or otherwise ill.
I cannot believe this! Going to his vet tomorrow. Prob need a few stitches.
Have you ever heard of anything like this?

RESPONSE:

No, I have never heard of this. It is indeed strange. I do know that manx cats can have problems with their tails and spinal region but would be interested to learn what your vet says.
