pads look very swollen

hiya I just adopted a stray well it was ferrel now I changed him.lil man has 4 swollen paw pads the are pinky soft and don't bother him he walks fine.he eats well.now sleeps a lot lol.do I need to take him to a vet I don't want to lose him.he been outside for so long he must of been dumped.he was a state until I started feeding him.made a cat den outside with fleece blankets inside.now he lives in house he is comfortable.could it be change of environment.please help me thank you
