Skin and weight

Cat is 13, got fat, 21 lbs., not active, has terrible dandruff, skin is rough, like sandpaper, sometimes you can lift hair easy with root. Any suggestions?

RESPONSE:

Overweight cats are prone to many ailments. I would suggest that you look for cat food that is specifically made to help lower a cat's weight. There are many brands available. If you go into a store such as Petco or PetSmart, you will find a good selection.

Its important to get the weight down while still maintaining good nutrition. Your cat may then become a little more active. The hair issue may or may not be related to the obesity. So I suggest you start working on the weight issue first.
