Will a broken bone lead to Athritis??

Will Garfield's broken leg lead to athritis?..?He's been acting very lazy nowadays..plays little and always tends to lie down..is this because he's still recovering..or are these the first signs of Athritis..

RESPONSE:

Hi Ana, It sounds like Garfield is just being smart and not overdoing his activities while he is still in the recovery mode. Cat arthritis is a degenerative disease that happens over time and although he may end up predisposed to it, this shouldn't be an issue right now.

There are over-the-counter preventatives that can help lessen his risks such as fish oil or oemga3 fatty acids that can be mixed with his food. Glucosamine helps promote joint repair and you can get it in both tablet and liquid form. This can also be mixed into food.

Soft bedding will help him and you already know the benefits of massage that worked for you already. His leg will take six weeks or more to completely heal so it sounds like he's pacing himself with the exercise. Sounds like you have a smart little guy.

Happy wishes to you both.
