protien

my cat had a cbc and all was normal but his protein was elevated he has thyroid and takes med does elevated protein mean always mean cancer of can it mean infection of some kind since all other blood work was normal

RESPONSE:

Elevated protein levels usually means the antibody system has activated to fight an infection. These can be an indication of a tumor or cancerous cell that its attempting to neutralize or simply something minor. However, since everything else was normal I don't see a reason for concern unless your cat shows other signs of illness such as lethargy and loss of appetite.
