Throwing up?

My cat has always had problems with keeping his food down without throwing up, we don't have special times we feed him but when ever he meows at us we feed him, we've tried feeding him soft food but we still cannot get him to keep his food down, sometimes he'll eat without throwing up though. How can I get him to stop throwing up his food?
