Decompressed paw pads cat

by Teresa
(Kent WA)

A couple months ago, I noticed my 4 year cat, Py, limping on left paw. A few weeks went by and no limping. He has no cuts or abrasions, nothing stuck. Only thing can think of is I accidentally stepped on his paw, but not sure if it was the left paw. He also tries to jump into tight spaces. Comparing the two paws, I see fullness to his right, left are flat. No tenderness that Py reacts to. What have I done?

RESPONSE:

You may have done nothing and you're not sure you stepped on his paw. Your cat may have jumped down and twisted his paw, a recessed claw could have injured his pad when he landed, etc. There are a number of incidents that are possible. Since there is no discomfort exhibited when you touch his paw, then it doesn't sound serious.

However, you should monitor his reactions to having his paw touched and if he shows pain, I suggest you take him to your vet to be checked out.
