frighten

We have just received 2 cats that are 3 yrs old. They cannot live where they were as it was a rented home. However their owners committed suicide, since we are the only heirs the cats came to us. One cat is coming around, but the other one is hiding in our basement and will not come out or up. What should we do?

RESPONSE:

The cat in the basement is obviously terrified and also suffering the loss of the previous owner. Leave food, water, and litter available and talk soothingly when replenishing them.

It can take a few months to establish some trust...that you won't harm it.

I wish you luck and patience with this problem.
